The Calling is a live album that pays homage to the classic trumpet & alto fronted bands from jazz music's rich history. The sound, feel and vibe of this recording will transport the listener back to performances by timeless quintets led by such luminaries as Cannonball Adderley, Lou Donaldson and Phil Woods.

Recorded live in January 2023, at Alias Coffee Roasters in historic Troy, NY, this exciting new release features 6 original compositions written by members of the ensemble. From the soulful opener The Calling, by saxophonist Keith Pray, to the lush bossa nova Luciana & Gustavo, by bandleader/drummer Joe Barna and finally the closer Freedom, by trumpet legend Ray Vega, this recording is high energy and engaging first note to last.

Whether a new listener to jazz or a savant of the art form you will be transcended back to the late 50's and early 60's while absorbing the funky, swingin' and at times gentle tones documented within this exhilarating new offering.
